Humanstuck Makaras: Goatdad, GHB, Kurloz, and Gamzee

Meet the Marinos family from order of age: Gabriel, Thane/Thana, Carlos/Cairn, and Gavril. Gabriel is the oldest of him and Thane who are the only siblings. Their parents died just before Gabriel turned 18, so they were split by foster care for a little while, until Gabriel came charging back in at 18 to take custody of Thane. Thane met his best friend, Skyler Pierce (Condesce), in high school. They later married out of convenience (his suggestion), when she became pregnant and decided to keep the kid (Meenah). 

The marriage ruined their relationship though. Thane took in Carlos, his unknown son who was deposited with them as a toddler, and Skyler became pregnant with twins a few years later, which Thane convinced her (grudgingly) to keep. They eventually divorced when the twins, Felice and Gavril (Feferi and Gamzee), were still small. Skyler ended up with Marco (Meenah before transitioning) and Felice, while Thane ended up with Carlos and Gavril. 

Thane moved in with Gabe for a while, because he had just become a single parent and needed help with the kids, as he worked hard to get a good job so he could provide for his kids and help his brother out. He’d been working on a law degree while he was married to Skyler and had done some work of his own, so he eventually managed to become a District Prosecutor. Gabe worked a night shift as a bartender, so Thane could take the kids to school and work through the day, while Gabe picked the kids up in the afternoon and watched them until Thane came home from work.

However, when Gavril and Carlos were 5 and 11 respectively, Gabe disappeared after taking a phone call at the park. He vanished off the face of the earth, until it was revealed he’d been involved in some criminal activity and had been murdered by a group called the Midnight Crew. The case was taken to court and at least two of the four members were tried. Thane had a few friends he could call on to help with the kids until Carlos became old enough to drive and handle that on their own.

Gender and things:

Carlos is femme agender with they/them pronouns. They change their name to Cairn in high school. They’re pansexual and demiromantic.

Gavril is genderfluid, but doesn’t have much preference for pronouns other than he/him. He likes skirts but doesn’t feel comfortable wearing them casually until some time after highschool. He’s polysexual and androromantic.

Thane has always known she’s a woman, but it never seemed convenient for her to do anything about it, and after keeping it a secret so long, even from her brother and best friend/wife, it began to feel like she could never be anybody but Thane. However once Cairn had moved out on their own, Gavril had nearly finished high school, and she saw them become comfortable with their genders, she slowly began to become at ease with her own, until she finally came out to her children and a close friend of hers, Kane Yazdani (Signless). Her pronouns are she/her, and her sexuality and romantic orientation are unknown because she hasn’t given them much thought.
